"The Teacher Education Program allows you to remember what it is like to learn; the greatest talent a teacher may have is the ability to connect with students.”

We continue to receive excellent feedback from higher education professionals who work in programs throughout the state.
“It would be wonderful if all teacher preparation programs provided reading material and practical experience that promote overall human development (in the way the Boulder Journey School does so).”

“Coursework is focused on intrinsic motivation and developing a love of learning in both the adult and the child. Assignments are in-depth and so very thought provoking! They really seem to balance theory and practice within a reality setting; this is refreshing!”

Working with Lauren (a graduate of the Boulder Journey School Teacher Education Program), I have observed that she displays a deep and complete understanding of child development, is immersed in the theory and practice of the Reggio approach, shows a sincere respect for children, and possesses a strong image of the child. Lauren is always eager to collaborate with co-workers and has the ability to regularly give and receive constructive criticism. Lauren reflects on her practice constantly and encourages those around her to do the same. It seems that her experience in the Teacher Education Program has given her a thorough and rich foundation from which Lauren continues to draw as she engages in new experiences and makes meaning of children’s learning.

Our experience of having a Boulder Journey School graduate, Nicky Teaver, lead our team of teachers as our Curriculum Specialist since November of 2011, has been a truly enlightening endeavor. Nicky first began with us as a preschool teacher and then was quickly promoted to the Curriculum Specialist administrative position due to her deep knowledge and extensive experience studying the Reggio Emilia philosophy. The education Nicky received at Boulder Journey School has proved priceless in value to the growth and improvement of our school.
Previous to the inception of our Curriculum Specialist position, the Children’s Garden of Learning leaned upon an understanding of the Reggio Emilia philosophy that was a bit narrow. When Nicky began training and guiding our staff on the various gross and fine lenses of the philosophy itself, beautiful growth occurred with ease. We have observed positive differences in classroom setup, how our faculty converses with students and parents, the development of the art of questioning, the process of turning observations into lesson plans, the intentionality of documentation, and so much more.
The education Nicky received at Boulder Journey School has helped her to be a well-rounded educator with a deeply founded passion for continued learning. Nicky has learned the value of a research-based foundation and she teaches/trains from this firm foundation. This school year she has trained our staff on the basics of the Reggio Emilia philosophy, the creation and use of a common observation and planning tool, beautiful and intentional documentation, arrangement of the classroom settings, and different uses of recycled materials. She has also taught our Board of Directors the basics of the Reggio philosophy and has led presentations for parents during our Reggio Nights. As a powerful product of her education, Nicky is a vibrant trainer and teacher. She presents concise information in a clear, yet enticing manner. She is and has been a real gift to our school!
