To apply for the BJSTEP program, you must complete three separate applications. See details below.

1. Apply to the Boulder Journey School Teacher Education Program
Complete this application first. This application does not have a save feature, so please review the application and this checklist before applying.
Pre Application Requirements
- Applicants must have a conferred Bachelor’s Degree or must be in their final year of a Bachelor’s Degree Program to apply to the BJS TEP.
- Order an official electronic transcript from every College/University attended, to be sent to [email protected] directly from the College/University.
- Prepare a current resume to submit with the application.
- Obtain two professional letters of recommendation.
- Write and Essay/Letter of Intent. The letter of intent should be 2-3 typewritten pages. Please include the following:
- Please address your letter, Dear Boulder Journey School Teacher Education Program Faculty.
- Briefly introduce yourself. Show how your background and experience have prepared you for the program.
- Outline some core values and beliefs - and how they will support your success in the program.
- Tell about your learning goals- what is it you hope to learn from the program, and how you hope to use that new knowledge.
- Give an indication of your career plans and the contributions you hope to make after you complete the program.
2. Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Alternative Teaching License Application (Early Childhood Education, 0-8)
You do not need to have applied to the CDE at the time of applying to the BJS EP, however, you will want to begin the process. Click on the button below to view the instructions to apply for your Alternative License Application.
Required Exams for the Program:
Step 1: Register for the Praxis 5024 to be taken before the start of the program (you can choose to take the Praxis 5205 if you wish, before the start of the program, but is not required to have passed until the end of the program.

- Praxis 5024: Education of Young Children - This must be passed before the start of the program.
- Praxis 5205: Teaching Reading Elementary - This must be passed before the end of the program.
Step 1: Register for the Praxis 5024 to be taken before the start of the program (you can choose to take the Praxis 5205 if you wish, before the start of the program, but is not required to have passed until the end of the program.
- For more information about exam dates, review the ETS Praxis Website.
- You will notice that there are other pathways that you can mark to determine eligibility to apply for your Alternative Teaching License and while you can mark those, the Praxis 5024 is still required to start the BJSTEP.

3. University of Colorado Denver Application (CU Denver)
This application will be completed after acceptance to the BJS TEP.
- CU Denver will send specific application instructions to those accepted to the BJSTEP, during the spring, so there is nothing you need to do at this time.
