TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM
A University Within a School in Partnership with the
University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center
Through the Teacher Education Program, intern teachers at Boulder Journey School study and engage in discussions surrounding educational literature, classic and contemporary issues in education and current research. Assigned projects, seminars, recitations and a mentored teaching experience encourage teachers to make connections between their studies and observations made during the daily life of the school.
The Boulder Journey School Teacher Education Program is comprised of
three components that are woven together. These components allow teacher candidates to:
- Earn an Early Childhood Education teaching license (infant through third grade) through the Colorado Department of Education
- Earn a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology or Early Childhood Education through the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center
- Complete a teaching practicum
PRACTICUM AND ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE
12 months, beginning in August
- Campus Coursework: 21 credits
- 5-hour weekly seminar and recitation at Boulder Journey School: 15 credits
- Mentored teaching experience: 30 hours per week in a Boulder Journey School classroom with one of the following age-groups: Infant, Toddler, Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten
- Living Stipend: $4,500 – paid in three installments
EXPENSE
- Tuition: First 15 credits- paid by Boulder Journey School
Remaining 21 credits- paid by intern
- Application Fees: Boulder Journey School (BJS), Colorado Department of Education (CDE) and University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center (UCDHSC)
- Deposit: Non-refundable $300 to secure a space
- Books/Materials
- Financial aid is available to qualified applicants
ELIGIBILITY
- Applicants must have the following:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Acceptances to BJS, UCDHSC and CDE
- CPR and first aid certification
