TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM
APPLICATION PROCESS

In an effort to assist you through the application process, we have outlined the following procedure:

  • Complete and return the Boulder Journey School application.
    • All applicants generally apply to Boulder Journey School first. Because Boulder Journey School accepts applications year round, the dates and deadlines associated with the University of Colorado at Denver and the Colorado Department of Education often determine when applicants begin the process. The first day of Boulder Journey School’s 2008-2009 school year is August 18, 2008.
  • After we receive your application, we will call you to schedule a tour of the school, classroom observation and interview.
  • Apply and gain acceptance by the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center.
    • The deadline for applications for the Fall Semester has always been April 15. Acceptance to UCD for the Fall Semester (August-December) is not necessary in order to begin the Teacher Education Program at BJS and complete a master’s degree in 12 months. Acceptance to UCD is necessary for the Spring Semester (January-April) for anyone interested in completing the master’s degree in 12 months. The deadline for applications to the university for the Spring Semester has always been September 15. For more information please visit www.uchsc.edu.
  • Obtain a Statement of Eligibility from the Colorado Department of Education
    • Applicants who are interested in earning their Early Child Colorado License (birth to third grade) must have a Statement of Eligibility from the CDE by August 18, 2008. For some individuals, obtaining an Alternative License can be quite time consuming. For more information please visit www.cde.state.co.us.
      • Choose “Educator Licensing/Services”
      • Choose “Educator Licensing & Applications”
      • Choose “Licensing Website & Application Forms”
      • Choose “Alternative Applicant”
    • The Boulder Journey School Teacher Education Program is in the “One Year Alternative Teacher Licensing Program”.
    • This will inform you of the guidelines for obtaining an Alternative License and allow you to download an application.
    • One requirement for the Alternative License is to pass the PLACE test for Early Childhood; you can register online at www.place.nesinc.com.
    • Anyone who applies to the Boulder Journey School Teacher Education Program and is accepted without an Alternative License will be eligible to begin the practicum and master’s work. The license can be earned the following year.
